As a nonprofit, the Palm Beach County Safety Council’s mission is to reduce health hazards and prevent injury for both personal and economic loss. While our regular programs focus on safety practices in the workplace and on the road, we have a passion for providing our community with the tools to stay safe and healthy in any condition. While we are all navigating together through this difficult time, we believe in the power of knowledge. Therefore, we want to empower you with reliable information and advice on how you can stay healthy from the Center for Disease Control.

CDC guide to stopping the spread of the coronavirusThe 2019 novel coronavirus is highly infectious and spreads through respiratory droplets from coughs or sneezes from infected individuals. The symptoms of the coronavirus include a dry cough, shortness of breath, and a fever. The Center for Disease Control has released precautionary measures to reduce your risk of getting COVID-19;

  • Wash your hands
  • Use hand sanitizer with alcohol content 60% or above
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Keep a distance between you and those around you of at least 6 feet
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Participate in social distancing and stay at home if your job allows the opportunity

As with most viruses, older adults are at a higher risk of infection, but adults should be just as cautious. Early on, it was believed that younger individuals were less likely to contract the virus, but we now know that they can be asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19, furthering the spread of the virus.

As a community, we have a duty to take care of each other. If you or someone you have come in contact with feels ill, seriously consider self isolation for the recommended 14 days to help your neighbors remain safe. If you are experiencing symptoms, please stay home and call your doctor.

Our thoughts are with everyone today and always. With preventative measures and coming together as a community, even through distance, Palm Beach County will overcome this challenge and continue to be a community known for “the best of everything.”
